Active Schools
2026-2027 Boherbue NS are working towards our 2nd Active School Flag. This is a whole school initiative and we are so excited to be taking part. As an active school, we promote a school where physical activity is valued, promoted and enjoyed by all. We are "moving well and moving often". The active school flag promotes physical activity in a fun, positive and inclusive way. The project is divided into 4 sections-Physical Activity, Physical Education, Partnership and Active School Week. Keep up to date here on this page to see what fun activities we are getting up to this year.
In September, we had a skipping instructor come to our school to teach us skipping.
As part of our journey towards our second Active Flag, we have continued to strengthen our links with our local community and seek opportunities to provide our pupils with new and exciting ways to be active.
One of our key community partnerships has been with a skipping coach, who visited our school to work with pupils. The coach introduced the children to a variety of skipping skills, challenges and activities, helping them to develop coordination, balance, rhythm and fitness in a fun and engaging way.
The skipping sessions were a great success and encouraged pupils of all abilities to participate. The children were enthusiastic about learning new skills and enjoyed challenging themselves individually and working together with their classmates. The visit also introduced many pupils to an activity that they could easily continue during break times and at home, using minimal equipment.
Following the coach's visit, skipping has become a popular activity in our school. Pupils have been encouraged to practise their skills during active breaks and to challenge themselves to learn new skipping techniques. This has helped to create a positive attitude towards physical activity and has given children another enjoyable way to be active throughout the school day.
This partnership demonstrates our commitment to working with members of our wider community to increase participation, develop physical skills and promote lifelong enjoyment of physical activity. We hope to continue building on these community links as we progress towards our second Active Flag.
In September and October, 2nd to 6th class had their swimming lessons.
The lessons provided an opportunity for children to develop their swimming skills, water confidence and overall fitness in a safe and supportive environment. Pupils were encouraged to challenge themselves and improve their skills while enjoying being active. The swimming programme helped promote the importance of water safety and lifelong physical activity.
