Step 1: Science

Science-Living things plant and animal life.

We went on a trip to the local IRD Duhallow where we attended a workshop all about owls. This was part of observing and examining animals that live in local habitats and environments in the Boherbue area. We learned all about where owls build their nests and how to spot if there is an owl nest in our shed. We learned all about the different types of owls that are in the Boherbue and Duhallow area. We learned how Bird Watch Ireland and IRD Duhallow are trying to reintroduce different types of owls into the area. We had a great day!

Science-Living things

Investigating the factors that affect plant growth.

We learned about the life cycle of a plant and decided to plant crocus's in our classroom. We researched and investigated what conditions the crocus needs for optimal growth. We collected old plant pots from the families of 6th class and we planted the bulbs in early October. We can 't wait to see them blossom!

March 2023

Science: Materials: Properties and characteristics of materials & Materials and change.

Senior Infants explored the effect of water on a variety of materials. Materials included denim, nylon, cotton and wool. The students predicted and tested whether the materials would be waterproof and whether the materials would sink or float. Students recorded their results.

Science-Materials: Properties and characteristics of materials

We learned all about the different states of matter and its properties. We looked at how matter changes from one state to another. We conducted an experiment called the Oobleck! We  used corn flour, water and food colouring to see how what would happen the matter!

Lifetime Lab

3rd-6th Class participated in a Lifetime Lab Science workshop for Science week and learned all about electricity, conductors and insulators. Pupils had lots of fun making their our own circuits.
