Easter Trail
Second Class had lots of fun completing an Easter code breaker on the last day before the holidays. The children enjoyed working together to find the letters and crack the codes. Wishing everyone a happy Easter and an enjoyable break!
Junior Achievement Ireland
Grace Collins visited Second Class for five sessions as part of the Our Community programme from Junior Achievement Ireland. Through a range of engaging activities, the children explored jobs in the community, how goods are produced, and how money is used in everyday life. They also learned about the role of government, why taxes are important, and practised making thoughtful decisions, helping them to better understand how communities work and the part they can play in them.
Cork City Sports Trials
Cork City Sports trials took place on the astro turf at the Comprehensive School. Pupils enjoyed taking part and we look forward to the races in May.
Lá Glas
On Monday, 16th March, Second Class enjoyed a wonderful Lá Glas celebration in the Parish Hall as part of Seachtain na Gaeilge. Dressed in vibrant green, the children proudly performed Irish songs and poems and also showcased their musical talents on the tin whistle and fiddle. They had great fun taking part and celebrating our Irish language together. It was a joyful occasion and everyone did a fantastic job. Well done, Second Class!
The Sacrament of Reconciliation
Congratulations to the children in Second Class on receiving the Sacrament of Reconciliation on Wednesday, 11th March in the Church of the Immaculate Conception, Boherbue. Well done to everyone!
Gymnastics with Fitness Ireland
Second Class enjoyed four weeks of gymnastics lessons this term with Fitness Ireland. The lessons took place in the Handball Alley, where the children had great fun learning new skills and developing their confidence under the excellent guidance of their coach, Mikie.
LEGO WeDo: Milo the Science Rover & Windmill
Second Class had a fantastic introduction to coding with LEGO WeDo. They programmed “Milo the Science Rover” to move forwards and also built and programmed a LEGO windmill, exploring movement, coding, and problem-solving in a fun, hands-on way!
Maths Stations
Over the past five weeks, Second Class have had a fantastic time developing their problem-solving skills through Maths Stations. They explored topics such as money and weight while enjoying a variety of activities, from Chromebooks and board games to hands-on challenges. The children loved working together, thinking critically and having fun with numbers. A big thank you to Ms Lenihan, Ms O'Reilly, and Mrs O'Mahony for all their support!
Second Class Creates Amazing Musical Instruments
Second Class had great fun exploring sound as part of their science lessons. They discussed different types of instruments, including those we pluck, blow into, and bang to make sound. The pupils then designed and created their own amazing musical instruments. They were very proud to display their work in the classroom and even invited other classes to come and see their fantastic creations.
Friendship Week
As part of Friendship Week, Second Class teamed up with Sixth Class for Team-Up Monday. The pupils enjoyed playing a variety of board games together, sharing fun and laughter throughout the day. It was a great opportunity to build new friendships and connect with others across the school.
As part of Friendship Week, everyone enjoyed a cosy and fun-filled Pyjamas and Pancake Tuesday. Pupils came to school in their pyjamas or comfortable clothes and enjoyed delicious pancakes with their friends.
More Lego STEAM Park Fun!
As part of Friendship Week, First and Second Class came together to combine their skills and creativity. Using the LEGO STEAM Park, they worked collaboratively to design and build fantastic creations. It was a wonderful opportunity to strengthen friendships, develop teamwork and have fun.
Art Fun
St. Brigid's Day
Second Class enjoyed learning about St. Brigid’s Day. We learned all about the life and importance of St. Brigid, and Fifth Class visited our classroom to help us make traditional St. Brigid’s crosses from rushes.
Lego STEAM Park
Second Class enjoyed their second LEGO STEAM Park lesson this week, where they explored chain reactions. The children had great fun building, testing and watching their models move as they learned about cause and effect. Using the LEGO STEAM Park sets, on loan from Tralee Education Centre for the next five weeks, the children are developing their creativity, teamwork and problem-solving skills through hands-on play and learning. We are really looking forward to more fun STEAM lessons in the weeks ahead.
Catholic Schools Week 2026
Second Class had great fun celebrating Catholic Schools Week. This year’s theme is Holiness, and the children learned how Jesus teaches us to be kind and caring friends. They talked about ways to show kindness in school and at home and created colourful hearts to celebrate love, friendship and helping others.
Lego STEAM Park
Second Class started their first LEGO STEAM Park lesson this week. They had lots of fun creating their own stadiums! The sets are on loan from the Tralee Education Centre for the next five weeks, giving the children the chance to explore engineering, creativity, and problem-solving through hands-on building activities. We are looking forward to enjoying more lessons in the weeks ahead.
Trip to the 'Domain of the Dinosaurs Exhibition' in UCC
On Friday, 15th January, Second Class enjoyed an exciting trip to UCC’s Glucksman Gallery to explore the Domain of the Dinosaurs exhibition. The children discovered fossils from the only known dinosaurs found in Ireland, viewed life-sized skeleton casts, and participated in a hands-on clay workshop, creating their own imaginative tracks inspired by the dinosaurs. It was a fantastic day of learning, imagination, and hands-on exploration of Ireland’s prehistoric past.
Christmas Concert 2025
Second Class really enjoyed performing on stage on Monday, 15th December. They performed a lovely selection of tin whistle pieces, including Trasna na dTonnta, Frosty the Snowman and Silent Night. They also sang Rudolf the Red-Nosed Reindeer with great enthusiasm. The children performed confidently and were a credit to themselves and their class. Well done, Second Class!
Halloween Fun in Second Class
Exploring Chromebooks in Second Class
Second Class were very excited to get their own Chromebook logins this week. They learned how to log in, open Google Docs, type using capital letters, add pictures, play a fun maths game, and shut down their Chromebooks properly.
Fifth Class came along to help out, and everyone had a great time. The children can’t wait to use the Chromebooks again!
Spooky Clay Pumpkins
Second Class had fun making spooky pumpkins out of clay and painting them. They turned out fantastic!
Rebel Óg Football Coaching
Rebel Óg Football Coaching with Eamonn Lane – Second Class
We are delighted to welcome Eamonn Lane to our school again this year as part of the Rebel Óg Football Coaching programme. Over the next few weeks, Eamonn will be working with our second class students, helping them develop their football skills, teamwork, and love for the game.
We’re also grateful to the TY students for assisting during the sessions and supporting the younger students.
Graffiti Name Art
Second Class had great fun creating colourful graffiti name art this week! Using oil pastels, they designed bold, eye-catching letters and added bright patterns and shading to make their names stand out. Every piece was full of creativity. Well done, Second Class!
All About Me Self-Portraits
Second Class enjoyed making their self-portraits. They drew and coloured themselves holding a football filled with facts all about them. The results are fantastic — well done, Second Class!
