Confirmation 2024 🕊️

A huge congratulations to all the pupils in 5th and 6th class who recently received the Sacrament of Confirmation. It was a very special ceremony. A huge thank you to Fr. Kennelly and to our school choir from 3rd and 4th class. 

Peace Proms 2024 🎵

On Saturday, March 2nd 6th class travelled to the SETU Arena in Waterford for Peace Proms 2024. What a fabulous time we had! We got the opportunity to perform alongside the 'Crossborder Orchestra of Ireland'. The whole show was such a spectacular production. Some of the songs we performed include, Pompeii, Brave, Under the Sea from 'The Little Mermaid' and Revolting Children from 'Matilda'. A huge thank you to Mrs. Casey who travelled to Waterford with us for the event and to all our families who came all that way to support us! 

Internet Safety Day

Internet Safety Day took place on February, 6th. To mark the day, we completed a series of lessons on internet safety. We also held a poster competition in class. Well done to our winners Amelia and Eimear who both designed fabulous posters reminding us all of the importance of staying safe online! The girls both received a well deserved homework pass!

Cinema Trip!

On Friday February 1st, the whole of Boherbue National School enjoyed a trip to the Omniplex Cinema in Killarney to see the movie 'Migration'. We really enjoyed the movie and the whole trip! 



Catholic Schools Week 2024

As part of Catholic Schools week 2024, we learned all about the importance of our community. We celebrated Grandparents day on Wednesday by sharing stories all about our grandparents, listing all the things we love about our Grandparents and writing Acrostic poems.  

🖥️ Lego WeDo Coding 

We were delighted to take part in LegoWeDo which is a a hands-on science solution that develops science practices in the classroom through a robot-based learning system. We used our Chromebooks to program each item we made. It was very enjoyable!

Team Hope Christmas Shoebox Appeal

6th Class had the pleasure of handing over our shoeboxes to the Civil Defence who kindly came to collect them.  

We are so proud of our whole school for donating so many shoeboxes and in turn, helping so many children this Christmas. Well done everyone! 

Cycle Right Training

6th Class completed their Cycle Right Training and received their certificates after a very enjoyable four weeks. We learned so much about bike safety and cycling correctly. We would like to thank Ms. Randles and Mrs. Casey for organising the initiative.

Maths Week Celebrations! 

We recently went to a 6th class Rebel Óg football blitz in Mallow GAA complex. It was very well organised and everyone got the opportunity to play in a non-competitive environment. We had a fantastic day! 

Orienteering Trip

6th class went to Mallow Castle recently on an orienteering trip. It was such an enjoyable day and we learned so much about map reading, team work and following directions. Have a look at some of our photos below.

Sport. 

Some of our recent sporting endeavours! Thanks to Scoil Mhuire Secondary School, Kanturk for hosting a very enjoyable basketball tournament. The boys and girls did really well and enjoyed the games! We travelled to Blarney for an FAI soccer tournament, it was the best day out! We are playing GAA in the Sciath na Scol football competition also and are enjoying our training sessions!

Trip to Confirm Smart Manufacturing-U.L. Limerick

🔬 

When 6th class pupil Aoibhinn Doody was in 3rd class in the midst of the Covid19 pandemic, the  class entered a competition online to design a Factory for the Future. The competition was hosted  by Confirm Smart Manufacturing in Limerick. Aoibhinn's design was magnificent and she won the  competition. The prize was a trip for Aoibhinn and her class to visit the Confirm Manufacturing in  Limerick. Due to the pandemic, they never got going on the trip but finally on February 15th 2023 we got to visit Confirm in U.L. We learned about augmented reality, 3D printing, robotics and sound proof rooms! A special thank you to Nicola Doody, Aoibhinn’s Mom for  helping to organise the trip.

We learned about the life cycle of a frog and got to build and code the frog to move and even sing! We used our Chromebooks to program the frogs. 

🔬 BT Young Scientist 2023 🔬 

6th class were honoured to have been chosen to present in the Primary Science Fair at the BT Young Scientist 2023 which was held in the RDS, Dublin. Our project was called "Was it something I read?". We even got to meet Tánaiste Micheál Martin. We also got to meet some previous BT Young Scientist winners. We had the best time! 

🎄 Christmas Concert 2022 🎄

We put on a mighty show at our Christmas Concert for 2 nights! We performed songs, played music and made our debut on the stage acting in our pantomime "Panto Pandemonium". A special thanks to our music teacher Mr. Alan Finn and retired teacher Mrs. Kiely for preparing us so well and getting us stage ready!

A huge well done to 6th Class pupils Tadgh O' Connor and Aaron Breen along with Cathal Hegarty and Cian O' Connor who won the Munster Handball Primary Schools 'A' competition 2022. A fantastic achievement.

Learning the art of Chess.

Chess helps improve children's visual memory, attention span and spatial awareness. We used www.ficheall.ie to help us.  

Busy learning handball in Boherbue Comprehensive School. We also got to meet Ed, their Therapy dog. 🐕 

We had a great time learning all about the art of thatching a roof. 🏡 

We worked collaboratively and learned about ways that we can protect our mental health.

6th Class 2021-2022

BT Young Scientist 

6th Class took part in BT Young Scientist, Primary Science Fair 2022 in the category "Living Things-plant and animal life. They worked hard investigating whether having plants in the classroom would have an effect on the levels of carbon dioxide in the room. The quality of the results and findings were extremely impressive. Our project was featured in the Cork Man newspaper.

We had the best day at school today! Aoife treated us to a homemade breakfast. We even had rashers and sausages from Daniel's farm!

Football

4th/5th/6th boys got to the finals of the Rural Schools Football competition , May 2022 in Rathcoole. Unlucky for us, we were beaten in the finals by Millstreet. 

 

Hurling

A huge well done to 4th/5th/6th Class boys who got to the Duhallow Schools Hurling Final in Rathcoole. We were narrowly beaten by Kilbrin in what was an enthralling game of Hurling. Well done to Kilbrin! A huge thanks to parents who gave up their time to coach our hurlers. We will be back better than ever next year!

6th Class enjoyed 6 weeks of hurling training with Cork superstar hurlers Robert Downey and Simon Kennefick. 

 


Self Defence

We went on a trip to Cork City and did a self defence class with SBG Cork.

We also met an entrepreneur and learned loads about entrepreneurship for our Junior Entrepreneur Project. 

Fundraising


On the 21st March we rocked our funky socks in aid of Down Syndrome Ireland and helped raise over 700 euro for a very worthy cause.

We learned all about St. Brigid and we made St. Brigid's day crosses. 

Irish Dancing



A huge well done to 6th Class pupil Katelyn who competed at the Mini Munster's Irish Dancing Competition recently.She won a cup and 3 medals competing in both jigs and reels. Well done Katelyn. 

We had a great time at gymnastics in Newmarket with Patsy.

🌲🌲 We visited IRD Duhallow and learned all about biodiversity. We even played some pitch and putt! 🌲🌲

🎤 Public Speaking 🎤 

6 of our pupils took part in Public Speaking with IRD Duhallow. We prepared a variety of speeches on different topics and we presented them in the last week of the course. 

German

6th Class in Boherbue NS were one of over 500 schools involved in introducing primary school children to a new language. We had the wonderful Tara teaching us German for 6 weeks. It was sehr gut! Lillie won a prize for hard work with learning German!

3D Landmarks & Report Writing

We made our own 3D models of famous landmarks from around the world! We wrote reports about our famous landmarks! 

💖💖💖Valentines Buns💖💖💖 

Confirmation Class 2022.

We entered our first basketball competition in a long time! The Kanturk Town League. Thanks to all in Diarmuid in Scoil Mhuire Kanturk for organising it. 

We took a boys team and a girls team with pupils from 4-6th! It was great to be back playing sport after such a long break (Covid!). We got to the semi finals in both competitions. We will be back next year again.

We learned all about how lungs work. We even made our own replica lung models!

We wrote book reviews for the Evening Echo. Our book reviews were published in the Evening Echo on Friday's throughout the school year!
