Welcome to 5th Class

            2023-2024

A huge congratulations to everyone in 5th and 6th class on their Confirmation day! 

It was a fantastic ceremony and all the pupils did themselves proud. A massive thank you to Fr. Kennelly, Alan Finn, the school choir and all those who helped to make the day very special.

There have been lots of activities in 5th class over the last while!

We were very lucky that we got to go to Killarney cinema on the opening day of the new film 'Migration.'

We learned about being safe on the Internet and created a collaborative poster together.

We created St, Brigid crosses on February 1st.

We are counting down excitedly to our Confirmation on March 7th and preparing for it in class.


November and December were crammed with activities for 5th class.

We had great fun participating in the play 'Aladdin'. Well done to the whole class! We performed music on the night also and a huge thank you to Mrs Kiely and Alan Finn for helping us.See main page for more Christmas play photos.

We created board games with instructions as part of Procedural Writing in English.

In Maths, we looked at different shapes such as pentagon, hexagon and made them on geoboards. We also created tangrams.

We became Playleaders on yard and played games with the younger classes.

We got to watch West Midlands Theatre Group who performed Sinbad The Sailor.

We had a Green Schools visitor to advise us about our Travel flag.


October was a very busy month in 5th class.

Ms Mc Sweeney was teaching the class for 3 weeks and did amazing work. The class learnt about the food pyramid, the solar system and French, just to mention a few things.

 Look at the amazing planets created in art and researched on the chromebooks.

It was very scary towards the end of the month as the class made a huge effort with all their scary costumes.

You will see a few of the activities of what we get up to during the school year!

We have begun to learn how to play chess and participating in mini-practise games.

5th and 6th class girls played in a non- competitive football blitz in Dromtariffe.  It was a great day out!

School Tour fun in Ballyhass!

It has been jam- packed with activities in 5th class. Here is a sample of the many learning activities:

We explored magnets in Science and made many predictions.

We looked at the theme of 'Sipoadóireacht' in Gaeilge. We drew and labelled our own towns and wrote many sentences about it.

We studied 3D shapes in Maths. We made our own 3D shapes with blu tac and matchsticks.

We had a visit from Millstreet Fire Brigade and listened to their talk. We watched a Water Safety webinar online.

We showed 3rd class how to play Dodgeball in P.E.

In Science, we looked at the bones in our body and formed a skeleton puzzle. We also made a moving hand and checked our reaction times.

We helped Boherbue Tidy Towns by picking up litter around the locality.

All of 5th class went to Banteer to support the 5th and 6th class boys in the Sciath na Scol final. We were thrilled that they won. A huge well done to all!!!

We created a beautiful collaborative rainbow in Art and also some paper sculptures.

March was very busy in 5th class.

We celebrated World Book Day by dressing up as our favourite characters and played a Kahoot quiz on the chromebooks to test our knowledge on books and authors.

We held a 'Seo Faisin' and described each other as Gaeilge for the topic of Eadaí.

We participated in Gaeilge assembly for the whole school and created fantastic seanfocail posters for Seachtain na Gaeilge, which were displayed in the village.

We were very excited to get the opportunity to chat to Carl Mullan, who ended up winning 'Dancing with the Stars'.

We participated in soccer and basketball tournaments.

We were invited to a talk, with 6th class, about the Water Treatment system for Boherbue and how it will help our village.

We made Easter art and helped 2nd class with the chromebooks.






February has flown by in 5th class.

It began by making St. Brigid crosses in class. We had great fun and learned all about her.

We looked at length in Maths and decided what measuring instruments to pick.We also had a Maths workshop from Lifetime Lab visit from Cork. There were many maths puzzles to solve.

We did Reading Buddies with 2nd and 3rd class.

We finished our novel 'Holes' and celebrated by comparing it to the film, while having a popcorn party!

We did LegoWeDo creating robots and coding them.



January was filled with plenty of activities in 5th Class.

We had a science workshop in electricity in Lifetime Labs in Cork city. We learned all about circuits, light switches, and even made a motorised car.

We began improving our typing skills on the chrome books.

We attended a Road Safety workshop. 

We also had a visitor to chat to us about Internet Safety and created a colloborative poster about being our best digital selves.

We celebrated Catholic Schools week and created lovely artwork to remind us of God's message to Love One Another.

We were so lucky to go to see 'Cinderella' in Kanturk also.

December was very busy in 5th class.

We performed in the Christmas play 'Panto Pandemonium'. The boys and girls performed brilliantly on both nights and it was huge success.🎉 

We enjoyed a trip to The Buttery' as a treat for all the hard work in the play.

We looked at tessellations and tangrams in Maths.

We participated in a draughts tournament.

We created lovely Christmas art.


November was an action packed month in 5th Class. 

We participated in a Lifetime Lab Science workshop for Science week and learned all about electricity, conductors and insulators. We even made our own circuits.

In English, we learned all about Procedure Writing. To help us do this, we created our own board games with specific instructions.

We learned all about Greece in SESE and created fantastic projects on it. We even tasted some of their food such as feta cheese and olives. 

5th class also became Playground leaders and had great fun teaching the younger classes games.

Look at the fantastic effort 5th class made for 'Trick or Treat for Temple Street' charity! There was some very scary characters in class and we had an active break dancing like a skeleton.



5th and 6th class were invited to participate in an Olympic Sports Day in the Comprehensive School recently. They did events such as long jump, sprints, shotput and obstacle course. Everyone had great fun!

5th Class have really enjoyed partaking in Fitness Classes on every Monday.

4th/5th/6th Class Boys recently reached the final of the Rural Schools competition. They played great but unfortunately lost to  Millstreet in the final. They will bounce back again next year!

5th class have been practising their Gaeilge on the topic of 'Éadaí'. They have played board games and even held a fashion show as Gaeilge! They had great fun, dressing up and describing each other. Tá sibh go h-iontach!
