Welcome to Fourth Class
2024 - 2025
March - April 2025
In April, the class took advantage of the lovely weather and learned all about the Sun and Earth's rotations. To confirm this new information, the class traced their partners' shadows at 2:30pm on Day One and noted what direction the sun was shining from, on Day Two they noted the shadows' positions in comparison at 10:30am and double checked again at 2:30pm. ☀️
While the sun stayed shining, the class also created their own sound scapes - documenting what they could hear during quiet time 🐦🚛🚘🍃
The girls learned how to weave bracelets / anklets and how to make pom-poms while the boys were at a game 🧶
Great success over the Easter Break! The girls won medals at GymFest in Dublin while James continued his winning streak collecting two more trophies for his music 👏🏻
Men at Work! The students were a great help during the few days of water shortage, making sure all the bottles and cisterns were kept topped up throughout the school 👏🏻
Mother's Day Art 💖
Pancake Tuesday 🥞
4th Class read the story of Helen Keller, they learned some simple phrases in ISL and looked at the Braille alphabet. To put themselves in Helen's shoes they got to experience what it might be like to lose their sight, but in a fun way! Each pairing challenged each other by selecting everyday items for their partner to guess, using their sense of touch only. To challenge them further, the class went outside and attempted to identify their friends - many knew each other just from the features of their face and hair, but some did find it difficult. The class really enjoyed these activities and all agreed Helen Keller was a very strong and courageous woman.
A Spring garden, looking at Onomatopoeia and bringing their own words to life in the style of Roy Lichtenstein 🧨
Lá Glás was a huge success, 4th Class performed their songs and poems wonderfully at the concert, they created some colourful leprechaun art and rounded off a great day with some ice cream, although some thought it was too cold! ☘️
January - February 2025
The class learned about Optical Art - Op Art. They looked at a few different examples of optical illusions before completing their own hearts in the style of artist Bridget Riley.
The class learned about the two Brigids - St. Brigid and the Goddess Brigid - their similarities and their differences and the characteristics that allow both women to be reverred in history. They completed artwork that encompassed Celtic designs in the story of St. Brigid.
January also brought Catholic Schools Week, the theme this year was Alive in Christ, the class was asked to think about what this meant and to create a poster depicting how they can contribute to the greater good in their localities.
4th Class were a part of this year's Globe Rainfall project. In pairs, the class recorded the average rainfall everyday for a month and checked the pH level to make sure we didn't have any acid rain! This data was then shared with Globe and NASA as part of their research, we've never prayed for rain so much! ☔
Over the weekend of storm Eowyn, the class recorded over 40mm of rain had fallen in Boherbue.
The class also took part in a webinar with NASA Scientists and Mét Eireann representatives to discuss Climate Change and its effects around the world.
2025 started with a bang, well, more of a snowstorm ❄️
4th Class were delighted to get back into routine and to see each other again. January and February were very busy months as the pupils started Camogie, became Reading and IT Buddies to Senior Infants and First Class, and coded their Lego creations using the Lego WeDo programme!
They also took advantage of the dry weather to follow Layla's warm up before a Dodgeball tournament 🏀
