Italy Projects 🍕

4th Class worked extremely hard on their Italy projects during the month of November! We then got the chance to present the projects to 3rd Class. This was a great introduction to public speaking and everybody did an excellent job ! Here are some pictures of a few groups in action  

Erupting Volcanoes!

We had great fun making these volcanoes during Science Week!

Art - Light Bulb Moments

Science - Lava Lamps

The children made some lovely lava lamps as a science experiment. These were made using oil, food colouring of choice and an alka seltzer tablet to cause the 'fizz'. 

Maths - Data

We carried out an interesting survey in Maths this week! The children of 4th class surveyed the children of 2nd,3rd and 5th class to find out what they would choose as their favourite superpower given the choice! We surveyed 66 childre with one clear winner... time travel ⌛

History - Schools in the past

In September we learned all about schools in the past and how they are different to schools today! We looked at old pictures of Boherbue NS and how it has changed over the years. The children also interviewed their grandparents/parents and got some great information from a first hand source.

4th Class 2022/23

Lifetime Lab Workshop

The children had the amazing experience of taking part in Cork City Councils Lifetime Lab workshop. The workshop taught us all about how electrical circuits work. (We also got to go to the Comprehensive school which was a bonus.)

Paper Maché Volcanoes🌋

As we are studeny Ancient Rome, we decided to learn a little more about volcanoes. In particular the lost city of Pompeii and Mount Vesuvius. The children worked in their groups to construct volcanoes out of a bottle, newspaper and PVA glue. We will paint these and use them for an experiemtn next week. 

Painting our Volcanoes !

Today it was time to paint our volcanoes. We had t wait a few days to allow the PVA glue a chance to dry. The children and I were thrilled with how well they turned out and we are all really excited for when we can finally see these volcanoes erupt !

Volcanic Eruption 

There was massive excitement this evening as we finally got to see our volcanoes erupting. We carried out an experiment where we combined baking soda, vinegar and red food dye in the volcano and this produced the 'lava'. We all enjoyed it and it was a lot of fun. Also a nice way to finish our theme of Italy for the month of November

Catholic Schools Week 2023

To celebrate Catholic Schools Week 2023, 4th class had a discussion to see what changes they would make if they were to become pope. Here are some of the suggestions they came up with.

Camogie Blitz

Our 4th class girls had great fun playing at the non competitive camogie blitz in Mallow this January. 

Munster Handball Champions 2023

We are so proud of our 4th class students Maeve and Erin who won the Munster handball doubles on the 28th of January. Well done girls !!

'The Scream'😱 

We created our own versions of Edvard Munch's famous painting 'The Scream'and coloured them in using oil pastels.

St Brigid's Day 2023 👍

We spent Wednesday afternoon making St.Brigid's crosses here in Boherbue N.S.

Lifetime Lab Maths workshop

We had a great time taking part in the lifetime labs Maths Workshop in Boherbue National School this February. This is the second workshop we have done with lifetime labs this year and the children have really enjoyed them both. Who says Maths cant be fun !!

Lego We Do !

As can be seen in the pictures the children REALLY enjoyed programming their own lego sculptures to move using thr chromebooks and the lego we do programme! This gave our class an insight in to the valuable skill of coding. (Special thanks to Ms.Murphy in senior infants for helping us download the programme on the the chrome books)
