Welcome to 2nd Class!

2023/2024

February 2024

Rockin' and Rollin' in Rang a Dó! 🧑‍🎤

Such creativity! 2nd Class were tasked with designing and creating their own musical instruments using items found around the house, they showed up with drums, bongos, harps, guitars, banjos, shakers, harps and harmonicas - absolutely amazing! There was nothing else to do but test them by singing a few songs. Like all great rockstars they brought their show to the fans by touring each classroom to show off their wonderful instruments 🎸🥁 🪘

What a flippin' great day! 2nd Class were treated to some freshly made pancakes with all the toppings for Pancake Tuesday. Unfortunately, there is no photographic evidence as they were wolfed down super fast! 🤤

Safer Internet Day 2024

We learned all about how to stay safe when using the internet. 2nd Class shared their stories of being on the internet and we spoke about the correct ways to use it. We all agreed that the internet is a wonderful place to visit as long as you follow the safety rules

- Always ask for permission before using the internet and don't spend too long online

- Don't talk to strangers and don't share personal information

-Stay off of games and apps that are not age appropriate

-Be kind online, we don't like cyberbullies!

-Remember, not everything you read/watch online is true

The class created beautiful posters to reflect these important messages, it was a very difficult decision choosing just 3 winners of the competition. Congratulations to all for their fabulous work!

Lots of Art so far in February!

🐉Our room has been taken over by some scary dragons to celebrate the Chinese New Year of the Dragon

💖 We made gorgeous St. Valentine's Day wreaths

🐦‍⬛ We created an early Spring scene of birds perching on a birdhouse to escape some snow whirls.

What a trip!

We had a great day out to the Killarney Omniplex. We saw the movie Migration and really loved it!

There were plenty of funny parts with some scary baddies as well 🦆🐦🏝

January 2024

Catholic Schools Week 2024

This year we focused on the importance of those in our communities - our family, school community and local community. We spoke about the importance of being good friends and appreciating those that help us.

In the heart shapes, 2nd Class said what they will try to do to be a better friend.

We also took time to appreciate our grandparents. We interviewed our grandparents to see what life was like when they were our age now.

Rock, Paper, Scissors, Tag!

Sun Safety 😎🌞

We have been learning about the importance of wearing SPF.

To show the hard work SPF does to protect our skin from harmful rays, we conducted an experiment. The black sheet on the left has factor 50 spray on top and factor 50 cream on the bottom. The sheet on the right has no protection on it.

Even in these duller days, it is amazing to see the colour change on the unprotected sheet. 2nd Class are enjoying checking on the sheets weekly.

Maith Thú Mia-Lily!

Mia-Lily was the first pupil to complete the Food Dudes healthy eating programme. She has brought in an array of fruit and vegetables everyday since the initiative started back in October.

2nd Class are wonderful for bringing in healthy food everyday and are all on their way to completing the programme shortly

Happy New Year!

2nd Class settled back into school by thinking of their hopes and goals for 2024, both for themselves and our World.

We learned all about the celebration of Hanukkah, learned a fun new song called 'Dreidal Dreidal Dreidal', and even got to play the Dreidal game. We had great fun trying to win our classmate's tokens.

December 2023

Nollaig Shona Daoibh ó Rang a Dó!

The final few weeks in school were great fun for 2nd Class as they spent a lot of time practising for the Christmas show. As a class, they came up with the actions for the songs and decided to include different languages into their Christmas greeting. When all the boring work was done, they played old games and new games, made some Winter art, created Christmas poems and enjoyed having a messy classroom!

While learning about Advent and the importance of the Advent wreath and candles, 2nd Class made their own to display at home!

Gnomes, Gnomes Everywhere!

2nd Class spent some time learning how to make these adorable Christmas gnomes, they took a lot of patience and finger fumbling but turned out terrific!

We kicked off Christmas 2023 by creating some super cool shrinky dink Christmas tree decorations!

2nd Class couldn't believe how small their creations became but were delighted to see them hanging on the class Christmas tree.

November 2023

Its that time of year again! Late Late Toy Show Night! 2nd Class were super excited so no better way to celebrate it than with a Toy Show quiz!

2nd Class were very busy learning all about the importance of good Air Quality and creating posters to promote reducing engine idling and travelling by car. The finished products were fabulous!

Remembering to be kind to each other while thinking of our lost loved ones

Science Week Activities

We learned all about Acids and Bases by experimenting with different chemicals that are found around the house.

Before adding red cabbage to the chemicals 2nd class decided whether there would be a colour change or not. We then created our own PH scale!

We double checked our findings by using Litmus paper to discover if the chemicals were acidic or alkali.

The next part of the experiments took us outside where we made a colour changing volcano and reaction rockets! Only one rocket soared high up into the sky, the others needed more rocket fuel!

October 2023

Spooky, Scary Hallowe'en Fun!

We are budding professional dancers thanks to Íde!

Walk to School Week / Walk on Wednesday

We enjoyed a lovely walk around Slí na Sláinte in honour of Walk on Wednesdays. We enjoyed the fresh air so much we did extra laps... there might have even been a bit of racing!

September 2023

We took part in the Globe Ireland and An Taisce Clean Air Project. Four Air Quality Monitoring tubes were placed around the village at the end of September. They will remain there until October 24th when the tubes will be sent to the laboratory to be tested. The results will be posted on the Green Schools tab.

Our class had to choose 2 areas where there would be high vehicular emissions and 2 where the tubes would be sheltered. We chose sheltered areas inside the village playground and at the back of the main school, and high vehicle areas in front of the Parish Hall and at the crossroads. Huge thank you to Ms. O' Reilly for helping us to put up the tubes ☺️

2nd Class were delighted to take part in 2x Chromebook lessons with Miss. Courtney.

They were shown how to start up the Chromebooks, how to open Google Docs, the correct typing method and how to change the font, size and colours. They will be writing masterpieces shortly!

Colours, Colours Everywhere!

We revised the Primary and Secondary colours by mixing colours to create some stunning rainbow eyes.

We then created a scenic picture by choosing complimentary colours.

This or That?

A quick game of This or That to get reacquainted with everyone's likes and dislikes. Wow, this game started a lot of debates! 😂

  Summer Break 2023

Some of our spooky costumes for Halloween!

We completed a Halloween themed maths trail in our costumes!

Some Christmas themed artwork - we love hot chocolate!

We celebrated getting our Christmas holidays with a movie and a popcorn party!

The bad weather meant we couldn't do PE outside... so we brought PE inside to our hall and did some yoga!

We had some great fun dressing up as characters from various books for World Book Day!

We had a few Hermiones, a few Matildas, Willy Wonka and Charlie Bucket to name a few!

Kanturk Fire Brigade visited the school to give a talk on Fire Safety!

We got the opportunity to help out Boherbue Tidy Towns committee and do some litter picking around the village in the fine weather. A special thanks to Dylan's mom Tracey for organising this for us!
